British gas debt

I've just received a letter from lowel debt collectors saying I owe Ł59 to British gas from 2012!! I have had for the past 10 yrs plus pay as you go gas and electricity! So I rang lowel and gave them my ref number n then he asked for my name! Well I said if you sent me this letter with said ref number you will know my name! He refused to tell me who I was! Any advice grateful ty.

Surely if it is from 2012 then it is Statute Barred, I'm assuming you have not heard from anyone previously about this?
