  • Changes to unadopted road

I live on an unadopted road, it is a single track and only wide enough for one vehicle. There are 8 bungalows along the edge of the road and we all share responsibility. The original land owner has just gained planning permission to build more bungalows behind us. The plans indicate that access to the new builds will be via the golf club car park which runs parallel to my property and the unadopted road. I believe the plan will be to widen the unadopted road ro a two lane road. Can this be dine without asking my permission? Will I be responsible for the additional road?

On the basis of what you have said IMO you will not be liable for the upkeep of the extra width.

GENERALLY one is owner of the road to its midway point, the frontager on the other side being owner of the other half.
From what you say it seems you are responsible for a single track road.
You cannot have imposed on you responsibility for an extra width.

Any chance if developer widens road and brings it up to standard the local authority will take it over?
Your single track road is going to be subject to more wear and tear so the developer should be taking some responsibility
