  • Can an EU resident recover a debt against a UK company?

I helped get a short-term contract for a friend of mine, who lives in Portugal and is a EU resident, with a UK company who have now refused to pay 50% of his fees. They give no reason, they just believe they can get away with it as he isn't in the UK.

The amount owed is £3000 and I am not sure what steps he can take to recover this money. I feel very guilty about this as I introduced him to the company, so any links or advice would be very welcome.

    Thanks,

    John

If he has the use of a UK address then use MCOL. Is it worth using a UK solicitor to raise the claim as he will not be able to claim costs.

Quite often the threat of claim has the required affect. Must send a letter before claim first though

      Thanks for the reply.

Am I right in thinking this link is what you are referring to as an MCOL: https://assets.publishing.service.go...rguide-eng.pdf

If he was to use a UK solicitor what type of solicitor would be best and are 'no win, no fee' options available?

      Thanks again,

      John
