  • Car sale

Hi, I sold my car with a verbal agreement to my son. It was still registered in my name and at my address. We agreed he would buy it at an agreed price and if he ever sold it then he would pay me half the profit. He assured me that it was a forever car and he wouldn’t sell it. We fell out shortly after this and approximately a year later he sold it for £12,000. I haven’t been in touch with him as we don’t talk anymore. He only part paid for the car and he hasn’t been in touch to offer half the profit or to pay the balance of what he owed for the car. This happened 5 years ago and I feel that I have to do something about now because it keeps playing on my mind. Is there anything I can do or is it too late? Steve

You could try talking to him and making bridges.

If you are thinking of going all legal, be advised that enforcing verbal contracts through the courts is difficult due to the lack of written evidence.
Do you have any evidence supporting your assertions?

Hi, too late for bridge building, I think I’ve got some WhatsApp messages regarding this. Steve

It's easy for me to say but it's never too late. Relationships with people who matter are more important than money.
As previously advised, establishing verbal contract difficult. You seem to have had a good relationship.
