Lowell have issued proceedings after I asked for agreements

I received a pre letter of claim from Lowell's. I responded on 2 december stating I did not recognise the debt and believe the debt is over 6 years old so I requested copies of agreements from them. They have combined two different debts. One that is for capital one £991.43 and another Home Retsil Group £266.57. I have not received the documentation and they have issued proceedings against me. Can they issue proceedings before providing me with the documentation I have requested? Where do I go from here? The last thing i need is a judgment against me. I am not currently in work, i am only receiving maternity allowance and I'm currently looking for a job. Previous to that i was in uni for 4 years so i have no savings.
