  • Charging Order - Please help I'm feeling suicidal

    Hi,

I live with my parents and I come home today and my dad shows me a letter from the council. It's a charging order. My parents owe over 9k in council tax why they haven't been paying I have no idea and it's made me very angry.

The issue is if they do make us homeless (2 sisters 1 brother who is disabled) I'll be able to sleep tough but I'm worrying about my sisters and brother I don't want them to have a life On the streets.

If I could pay I would but I don't earn that much myself and my parents can't afford it either.

what do I do please help? Is there anything we can do or do I have to accept that we will be homeless?

Sorry to hear this. First step I think is approach council and explain situation. It may be you can agree a repayment plan. No one will want to make you homeless.
Organisations such as Shelter may be able to help.
If you feel everything is too much contact a support such as SHOUT. My niece volunteers with them and it seems well set up. Look after yourself, you matter.

I am so sorry to hear this but I agree with Scot22, communicating with the Local Authority can resolve this issue relatively quickly and it is in no one's interest to make you and your family homeless and that is some way off based on what you have said. The most important thing is to look after yourself, be proactive and work with your parents in communicating with the Local Authority. I promise you that, whilst this must seem dreadful, it can be resolved. Please reach out if you require any further help.
