  • RLP HELP!!

I am writing on here as I am very worried I stole from the range some Christmas decorations I am so embarrassed to admit, but I am not working currently and not receiving no money at all. I felt desperate.
I am very ashamed but I have now been told that the range will be contacting RLP to seek action for damages against me , one of the items I stole did get damaged, it was retailed at 2.50. The other items I stole come to £15
I am very worried. The police came also and cautioned me so I had to sign that too.
    please help?

Forget about RLP. Just ignore any letters you get. They have no authority to issue damages, penalties or fines.

Can't believe the police were involved and that they didn't offer a community resolution order for such a minor offence.
Trust they explained fully the implications of accepting a caution and advised you were entitled to be accompanied by a solicitor prior to the interview.

And as previously advised ignore RLP letters

The women who caught me was a store detective. She screamed in my face also.
Then she called the police straight away.
they come and didn’t even interview me ask me a few questions what happed didn’t believe me at all. Then said I am free the store doesn’t want to press charges but we have other work to do so sign this form. That’s it I was so stressed at the time wanted to be out of the situation so I sign it not even thinking what I was signing.
what implications would that have on me ?

Don't ignore any letters received, they'll take you to court for civil damages.

Look at CAB advice, it differs from what people are being told on here.

No they won't. AFAIK they haven't taken anyone to court since they lost a test case in 2012.

Ignore them. If you respond in any way they'll smell blood and continue harassing you.

Ok thank you, I will ignore them. In my eyes I’ve been punished for this by police caution. I am so stressed over this and will never do it again. Ever.
but I will pay if it means I don’t end up having a ccj

Even in the extremeley unlikely event they took you to court and won all you'd need to do is pay the judgment amount within 28 days and the CCJ won't get recorded.

I would take professional advice before you head down the slippery path of ignoring letters.

They will take you to Court and will be able to show you have been ignoring them.

Then they will increase the costs dramatically.

Get advice from a Solicitor and see what they say.

                              Because it’s a civil matter?
the amount I stole come to £20
and it was returned all but 1 item was damaged worth £2.50 which I offered to pay for.
