My daughter has a protected tree on her front garden that was planted by the developers about 20years ago to replace an old protected tree which was in the way of the plans. She has been in the house three years and her neighbour is now claiming that the roots are damaging his imprinted concrete drive. As a single parent she is concerned as to her responsibilities financially. Advice would be welcomed

Agree her insurers should be informed immediately.
It will be for neighbour to prove it is the tree roots damaging the pathway.
Although the tree is her responsibility if she owns the property, she may not do anything to it without the written permission of the local authority, so warn her not to go lopping off the roots!
