I have recently had to exercise my right to voluntarily termination of my vehicle due to being made redundant following covid 19 pandemic and no longer able to afford payments. I had the mot test done as had expired, it has failed due to needing new brake discs/pads and 3 coil springs. The terms state the car needs to have an mot certificate or need little work to get one. Do I need to get these repairs done before the vehicle is collected or could I return as is and argue these are general wear and tear based on age etc and given the fact I cannot afford payments or repairs?

You don't need to get the repairs done but expect the lender to charge you for arranging collection of the car and whatever repairs are needed to bring it up to standard. Currently the car is not considered to be in a roadworthy condition so the lender is entitled to recover the costs/losses incurred.
I would suggest you inform the lender because they will send just an inspector to collect and they won't be able to drive without an MOT.If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need.
