Selling alcohol laws UK

I walked into a Morrison with my partner (24) and she had realised she'd forgotten her ID so left the shop, I went to by the alcohol and was approached by the security guard who refused to serve me and asked if my partner had ID (Bearing in mind she had gone to the car) I explained she had left in the car as forgotten ID, and advised they could not serve me. Is this right? If so where does it show in what law?

Most shops have adopted a Challenge 25 policy whereby if you look or are younger than 25 you may be refused a sale. Some of this is borne out by the local authority who grant the licences & also any of the other authorities that an applicant has to notify. Yes the minimum age is 18 years for lawful purposes but this can be over ridden. Don't forget also that a retailer may refuse a sale of any description to anyone and does not have to give a reason for doing so - although most will if asked.
