I won’t write to them. I’m sure you are right in saying this may increase their interest.
I was meaning if she pays this £85 costs fir security is that an end to the matter.
I think if she was not afraid that family would discover what she has done she would ignore the letters.
iI know she should it’s just the anxiety over the family finding out due to frequency of letters.
The fact that they refer to themselves as solicitors first M&S not debt recovery is making it worse.

DWF are solicitors, but that does not give them any authority.
IMO that makes their actions even more reprehensible.

It is up to your friend whether or not she pays.
We advise against it as there is no legal or moral need to do so, but we do not know her family circumstances, nor her mental state.
If she pays them, that will be an end to it.
There will be no more letters.

Thank you so much for your help in this matter.
I think she is quite fragile. As much as I know your advice is absolutely the right and proper thing to do. If I could deflect from her to me I would then I could help her more.
I despise all that they stand for. My gut feeling is to hang it out. But I think she will cave in.

It is not caving in, but rather doing what is best for the victim!

Totally the right answer. She is a victim.
