Boundary Wall Question Please

Along the boundary between our house and next door we had a wall. Without seeking written approval the neighbours took the wall down. They now want to put it back up and want us to pay half, over £700. We have fence on our side of the wall so if the wall isnt there its no problem to us. Can anyone give any advice please? Thanks

To my mind their problem. They took it down without first discussing it with you.

But always best to be on good terms with neighbours so perhaps some contribution towards the rebuild.

Was the wall astride the boundary, on the neighbours side or your side of the boundary?
What was the condition of the wall?

If you do not contribute to the cost, regardless of where the wall sits in reference to the boundary, the wall will be owned by your neighbour and you will not be able to affix anything to it
