    Hi all,

Am I able to copy the description of something from a website and use it on my own to describe that same thing?

Eg. An accredited association has a description of a particular type of therapist on their website. I am that particular type of therapist and would like to use that same description on my own website.

Am I allowed to do this? If not, and I wanted an official description from a good source, which of the below are options?

    1. Contact the website owner and request permission to use the description. If granted give them credit on my own website.
    2. Re-word the description - if so, how much needs to be changed to avoid legal issues?
    3. Is there any websites that allow content to be used in this manner? If for example I wanted the definition of depression. How do I know if a medical website for instance has content that is public domain and can be freely used?

I'm asking this as I'm trying to understand the difference between someone's "works" and information that is free to share as it pertains to definitions of professions/conditions etc.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Cheers,
    D
