I have a question in regards to the defamation.
I’ve had a problematic tenant who physically attacked me. With help of police negotiations and me paying that person 600£ to leave and find another place I managed to get rid of that tenant.
That person did not want to leave as she want to continue being abusive. She was only living with me for 2.5 weeks and I was really concern for my life and health due to her behaviour. As I said the case finished with the police convincing her to take the money and leave.
Around week later I received a phone call from my employer, saying that I can’t come back to work as they received a complaint about me. That tenant wrote to my employer some untruthful statements indicating that I had some issues with police etc. My company said that they don’t get involve into people’s private life but will have to check all above before I’m able to come back to work. That email was sent and went to 50 most important people in my company including CEO. I reported all to the police and they said that they will send a confirmation email to my employer that I am not involve in any ongoing criminal investigations.
My question is what are my other rights in pursuing the defamation case here. As police explanation will reach my direct boss but still I will loose some days at work and also there are the most important people in my company thinking most likely badly of me. I am risking loosing my job indirectly due to that going further as there will be reductions in the staff and people getting redundancies. I might be one of them as from the perspective of employer if you have to reduce staff anyway and have one person with enormous complaint being written about them and others with no complaints about them, even if accusations are not true still you would consider that someone gets that and other people don’t. Please advice what can I do further.
