Overhanging trees in back garden

Hi all, am I correct in thinking I can cut down anything that encroaches into my back garden and yard? My neighbor's oak tree branches are hanging over and blocking out light as well as dropping leaves, deadbury etc all over and making a messon my decking and patio?

The advice is that first you talk to your neighbour, but, yes, you are entitled to trim back to the boundary any overhanging branches (and underground roots).
When you have done that you must offer the trimmings to your neighbour and if he wants them you must deliver them.
You should not just hurl them over the fence
