  • Barclays default for small amount on account never used

Hi , thanks for having me on the forum , I’m absolutely tearing my hair out and desperate for some advice as I appear to have ruined my future for £89
I opened a bank account with Barclays in according to them December 2017 at an old address interestingly I moved away from that property on July 2017 *which I have proof of , I was under a huge amount of stress that year leaving a DV relationship and I had a newborn child I did try and open another bank account , whether it was Barclays I seriously cannot remember ! Life has got better I am very busy ( I’m a full time nurse in the NHS I have 2 children one of whom has profound learning disabilities ) but all has gone well . I recently inherited half my grandfathers bungalow which being ideal for my son I have taken on and was arranging a mortgage to buy out my brother . I subscribed to a credit reporting service last weekend to seeon 31st of March I have received a default from *Barclays Bank for £89 !*

Horrified as this will prevent my mortgage and I have already spent £11000 on renovations from a disabled facilities grant in my house I contacted Barclays , I have been passed around from pillar to post spending every minute of my currently extremely precious time off trying to contact them on top of work which is exceptionally difficult at the moment .

Today I received after much chasing a final response letter stating basically sorry but tough the default stands as apparently I signed up to a blue rewards account and the default is the charges from that despite the account never being touched .
according to my credit file since 2017 £3 a month arrears has been building up , Barclays took it upon themselves to give me a £50 overdraft then decided to default me 2.5 years later*
Any hope with this , I had dared to hope due to the circumstances as a gesture of goodwill they would remove the default . The worst part is I don’t actually remember opening this account !!*
