London LEZ and hire cars

Hi all, I rented a van in March 2019 and inadvertently entered the London LEZ. Didn’t realise I had to pay but issue is that the French hire company didn’t get back to TFL for over nine months and the fine, when it finally reached me has increased to 1267€ from 275€. I have appealed but does anyone know of another case like this that I can refer to? Thanks*
