Welcome and condolences on the loss of your father.

Assuming your father was in receipt of benefits and Recovery from Estates section of DWP now want some of it returned.
A not unusual scenario, so await further details

oh well here goes, in 2002 i purchased my dads council house using his right to buy.* i have a letter to confirm this from the solicitor who acted in the sale at the time, this states the sale was fully funded by me......we left it in dads name as i (doing the right thing) thought if i changed into my name and later he needed care we would be accused of dodging care fees. Dad just left it to me in his will.* Fast forward 17 yrs. On 17th may 2019 it went into my name. On 3rd july 2019 i received a letter from the dwp wanting more info to check against their records. So i answered it. It transpires that they overpaid him pension credit. They knew 2 months before he died that were overpaying him but did not contact him while he was alive????? i find this very hard to grasp. They have a copy of the solicitors letter from 2002 so they know i funded the purchase, ( which i did to provide for my pension) and know they would be taking money from me and i owe them nothing. obviously i am going thru the appeals process.......any advice or tips would be appreciated, They must have encountered this scenario before. Lots of people do what i did. Thanks for reading. Floss
