  • Shoplifting in primark

So, this is embarrassing I know but me and my friend got caught shop lifting in primark the other day, we’re 16 and 17 and the things I attempted to steak cane to £9 and hers cane to £2 which I know is bad. As we left the security guard caught us and asked to speak to us and we told him our ages. He took us upstairs and searched us. He asked us to write down our name, address and date of births. He then said that he needs to call our parents but I explained that mine our both at work so he used my college lanyard to identify me instead. We both offered to pay for the things we attempted to take but he said that’s not allowed and that he’s going to issue a fine and that it’s going to go in our record. I read somewhere that primark aren’t allowed to issue fines and that only the court is. Is this true and should I pay the fine?
    thanks in advance.*

Also forgot to add that they also took my picture whilst I was holding this paper and they said that it’s going to be posted on some website and I am banned for a year from that primark. He also gave us a letter which is called a “notice of intended civil recovery” and is issued by the RLP. It says on it that it I don’t pay the fine that they can take me to court and that I should independent legal advice. The police was not contacted and he said that the only reason he didn’t call the police is because it’s too much effort so we’re lucky.

So you just ignore. Did they really call it a fine? You are correct, Primark cannot issue fines. So when the letters arrive then just file them away and forget.

There is a collection of the RLP letters on the site so find them to see what to expect
