  • PRA Group no dates

I received a letter on Friday from PRA Group in a misspelled first name and an almost decade old surname it states:

Dear incorrect and old name, We haven't spoken for some time and have recently been given this address for you. ( I question by whom but I will go on ) . Please get in touch to discuss your account with a member of our time.*
Contact us using any of the details in the " Get in touch " section at the top right of this letter.
If you do not think this letter is intended for you, please let us know.

Now I have just called the Insolvency Service to ask if this on my DRO 2016 either PRA Group or CL Finance LTD GE Capital which is on the letter. We found something similar at IDEM Capital for 244 however PRA are asking 318.12. Now the Insolvency Service is saying to approach this letter with caution as contacting them to say when or what this is about is accepting liability to some degree and not accepting it could land me in trouble also. There is no date of when this debt was accrued but as stated this name is at best 6 years old.*

    What do I do?

Simply making contact will not in any way deem you to have acknowledged the claim, but it does sound like a fishing letter to see if you will respond. Thing is, if you don't respond they may issue a claim against you for that amount but if you do respond, then they might have hooked on to something and you may start to receive more correspondence and demands.

If you do make inquiries, you should keep it all in writing as evidence in case you need it further down the line. I would be minded to keep it short and say something along the lines of, you are in receipt of their letter dated X and you have had no dealings with PRA Group. Ask them to explain the circumstances of the letter, what it relates to and why they believe you are liable for the amount listed. You can round it off by saying that without this information, you have no reason to believe the alleged debt relates to you.

Others might have different ideas so just tagging Amethyst, pt2537
If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you
