  • Ariel on party wall

Hi there. Last year our neighbour erected an Ariel on the wall of our downstairs master bedroom. The exterior wall to our bedroom is a party wall. The Ariel is above our flat roof roofline. We understand that he is within his rights to do this and doesn’t need our permission. However when it’s windy the Ariel grates and creaks as it flexes in the wind and it’s so noisy in our bedroom. It’s driving me mad. Our neighbour is a youngish lad who’s quite mouthy and confrontational. So how do we tackle this? *TIA.*

" We understand that he is within his rights to do this and doesn’t need our permission."

    Who told you that?*

    Who installed the aerial? Sky/freesat/DIY?

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. Our local authority told us this. The Ariel was erected by the neighbour to facilitate whatever he is doing in his shed at the bottom of his garden.*

If the wall on which the aerial has been fixed is an external wall of your house which is built up to but not astride the boundary it is not a party wall.

Obviously I am not aware of exactly how your house is built, or if the wall sits astride the boundary.

If it is not a party wall, fixing anything to it is a trespass and can be dealt with accordingly.

Thank you so much. I guess we need to dig out our plans and take a look.*
