Roof warranty dispute

Hi. Back in 2017 we had a re roof carried out. In 2018 I noticed damp from 1 area. I contacted the original roofer who attended. The leak continued and he promised to return. I then didn’t hear from him for 2 months. In the mean time I got another roofer to fix the leak costing me £3k. I also had the damage caused repaired inside costing another £1,500.00. I have requested this money back from the original roofer who is now saying it’s far too much and that he should have been made aware before other works commenced. Do I have any legal standing here? *Thanks.*
