  • HMRC Letter fake or genuine

    Hi All,

I've received a letter from HMRC but I'm not sure if they are genuine or not.* The letter states that it is from* Debt Enforcement ADT and mentions Specialist Taskforce.* When I called them they mention taskforce line. The number called in 03003227851. * I gave them my full name, address, NINO and bank details.* I now feel sick to my stomach as I'm not sure if they are genuine or not.* They say I owe task going back to 2013.

    Can someone help, please?

⚠️ The prevailing review of 0300 322 7851 indicates that it is HMRC scam call!

Please be warned that scammers may call you from 03003227851 pretending to be from HMRC and tells you that you will be arrested for unpaid tax please don't worry. You can rest assured that this is not the Inland Revenue but is a well-known scam and there is no case against you. Please take a look how this scam works on video . You can also report suspicious activity to the HMRC’s phishing

Thanks for getting back to me. I had a feeling that they are a scam. It was a letter that I received and I called them and made arrangements to pay. What shall I do?

I gave them my date of birth, address, NINO, a PAYG number ( its a number I give out to anyone but have a contract number as well) bank details sort code and account number and the way my name appears on the account.*

Onto the bank right now and they are very helpful.* I called the fake HMRC back and asked many questions by only giving them the UTI number. I told them that that is fraud and that I am going to call the police.* This may be too difficult to answer, but I was wondering what are the chances of them taking out credit etc against my name? Would they need to know how long I have lived at my address etc or will they be able to find these details based on the information that I have just given them? Silly question I know, but sick to my back teeth.*

Update. My bank has told me that they cannot take anything from my account as I didn't give them any card details. They can only set up direct debits, so to just lookout for any suspicious direct debits etc...

Called my mobile provider and they have set additional security in place just in case the scammers tried to swap out my number.*

              Has anyone else experienced this?

                Hi,

Update: I had cancelled my DD with them which they had set up 2 days later. But received a letter today stating that they have set up the DD and the number on the letter to call is 0300 200 3843. Is anyone else going through this?

                  0300 200 3843 is a FAKE number - it is a SCAM - IGNORE.
