Offence: Dangerous driving

Details: Hi, my friend was charged for death by dangerous driving and for causing serious injuries by dangerous driving. It was on East Lanc Road 2 days ago. He run through the red light and hit the car which was trying to turn right on the crossroad. He has a clean licence, drug and alcohol test was ok, tacho was ok. They found out that he may have been using his phone. He was never charged of anything, never causing problems. Do you think there is a chance for him to not go to prison? Or to be send to prison cat C or D? What should be checked that might help to defend him? They will probably check brakes, load etc. I heard that it was not the first accident on that road. Maybe there is something wrong with trafić lights system there. What can we do to help him?
