Hi - hope I can get some help here.
A family member had driving license revoked due to psychological condition (relapse). Private health counseling was obtained as referral to local NHS services was taking too long. Private counseling has finished successfully and license has been re - applied for. DVLA say they require letter from GP - GP won't issue letter without specialist report and won't accept private counseling letters as this wasn't ratified by GP - there is no NHS specialist as the GP referral never came through.
It's a catch 22 situation and we can't seem to get any plan for a way forward, DVLA say it's the GP, GP says they need (non existent) specialist support - they've said today they will 'try' and contact the NHS clinic (where 1 emergency appointment was attended and seen by a nurse) - but I can't see this being a solution even if they do contact them, which I seriously doubt.
Looking for any advice on how else to move this forward? Surely there must be a system whereby someone can demonstrate they are now fit to drive. They voluntarily sought medical help when the situation deteriorated, but then seemingly gets penalised unduly when treatment / counseling / medication has been a success.
