  • Letter from Business Loss Prevention

I did something so stupid and this will never gonna happen again and stole a perfume and was caught at the door at House of Fraser when the alarm is beeping and then the security guard had to take me and my brother at the back of the store. Our bags were checked and one t-shirt that I brought from there I’ve somehow lost the receipt for, luckily I brought it on my debit card but it won’t show up straight away on the online banking that I purchased and had to show proof the next few days to prove of purchased. But I didn’t have time to collect the T-shirt cos they given me 2 days to collect it and I thought it’s only £17 and travelling would cost me £3-£5 so not worth to pick it up. Also when they went through my bag, they even accused of taking a infant top which was secondhand and dirty which I told them look at it properly so they put it back in the bag. There’s was a decent condition of baby knickers that I got form primark, why didn’t they say I took it from the store too then. Looks newer than the infant top? They had prove that they saw me on CCTV with the perfume and was told that the police were coming. They took a picture of me and made me to sign a form a exclusive of order for a ban of 2 years, my brother was involved and didn’t done anything wrong and didn’t know my intentions cos first half way we were separated when browsing the store. They made him to sign the papers saying he was with me and said it’s only a banned and didn’t tell him that he is receiving a letter from BLP the exactly same letter but different dates that we entered to the store. My letter said it happened on the 9th January 2020 and his is on the 5th January which happened on the 5th. They also missed out my surname on the letter and wrong date? 2 weeks after I got a letter from BLP that they demanding £117.84 the two of us for apprehending, streaming, tagging and putting it back to the shop floor even though they recovered the stuff and is in resaleable state. It’s my fault I got my brother in the mess and will it affect him founding a job even they have nothing to prove he didn’t do anything. Don’t know what to do? Should I pay the fines or ignore them? I’m a single mother with 2 kids and can’t afford to pay..

They are not fines, they are invoices for alleged losses in dealing with the matter. Only the courts can issue fines. There have been no losses, as you say, so just ignore the letters.

Another company similar to BLP, RLP, did try court some time ago but got so spanked by the judge that they have not tried again since.

If you hunt round the forum you'll find many other threads about RLP to get the idea

THe important thing is to just ignore and file.

If these are not fines by a judge/court, then ignore them as the company cannot issue fines.
