Returning my vehicle VT Barclays Partner Finance

Hi, I've spoken to Barclays, paid my money to take me to 50% and they have told me that I will receive my paperwork in 3-5 days, which should be signed and returned. I have also been told to call the vehicle auctioneer's 5 days after I send the paperwork. I have read threads stating that a letter should be sent rather than signing the paperwork. Can you advise why the letter is a better option? thanks in advance*
