I got a letter today from rlp saying that I need to pay £272.50. I was caught shop lift. I returned all items and asked if I need to pay for the items, which I was told no. I then asked if the matter would be taken any further and they said because it was a first time offence it would not be taken further. My punishment was a year ban from the shop. So I am confused as to why I have to pay a fine when I was told by the shop and the police that the matter wasn't going to be taken further and that I didn't need to pay for the items I took. So why am I getting a letter now saying that I need to pay a fine when I was clearly told the matter would be taken further? And I have read that the best advice is to ignore the letters but I'm worried that the information I have read doesn't apply to Scotland as we have a different legal system. Any help would be grealt appreciated. Thanks

Do you have vigilantes then?
I thought you had a civil and criminal systems run by a judiciary similar, if not identical, to the rest of the UK.

Seriously tho' you have nothing to worry about from RLP (even in Scotland!)
Ignore them and enjoy Hogmanay (and Christmas!)
