  • Primark shoplifting

I was caught shoplifting at primark today. The total of it all was £10, but they called my sister and said there will be a fine. I am unsure if I actually have to pay this fine and if I will get into trouble if I don’t.*

It's not a fine.* Only courts can issue fines and you haven't, and will not be, going anywhere near one.* They are trying to invoice you for their imagined loss.* Just ignore the letter.* Look on here for RLP and you will see what to expect.

Do you know if I have a criminal record or anything?

You don't.... at least not from this incident.
However you may have a record if you have murdered your neighbour!

You will receive threatening letters requesting a donation, which on a first reading sound terribly legal.
However they are designed to pressure you into paying, and the urge to comply should be resisted.
Eventually they stop writing to you

You can read their letters here, so you will know what's coming your way

They will send three letters over the course of a few months and then most likely go away. Don't call, email or write to them. If you get a letter after the third then think about calling them or discussing, but otherwise just move on and try to put it behind you. Whilst I don't agree with the shop lifting no matter what the monetary value is, these private companies are absolute sharks. Take it as a life lesson and put it behind you :-)*

Disagree with advice that you contact them.
If you do that they seem to think they may have hooked you and redouble their efforts.
Just ignore them, even if they send more than three missives*written in*big red scary letters
