  • Equita overdue penalty charge

I have just received a demand for over £400 for an overdue penalty charge from Manchester City Council. No details of the reasons for the charge, although the letter states previous applications for payment have been made. This is the first I have heard about it. However, it may well be that previous demands were sent to my previous address before I got round to changing my car registration address details. I certainly have never received a parking ticket or any other paper charge attached to my car. Should I respond?

If documents have been sent to the last known address then it's likely that they were issued correctly. The initial step would be to contact the council and ask them what the penalty was for (Equita will have very little background information).

You need to check that the Warrant has been reissued to your present address. Then apply to the Traffic Enforcement Centre to file an Out of Time which if accepted will roll it back to the original ticket.
