  • Roofing Contractor

Hello, I contacted an independent contractor from Craigslist to do work on my roof. He came out gave me a quote. I accepted. He asked for 1/3 down payment. Gave him the down payment, I wrote up a contract stating I gave him a 1/3 down payment and work to be completed at a set date, both signed and dated.
Date came and he would not respond to any of my calls or attempts to make contact. It has been a week. Just wondering how long I should wait before I should file a small claim? Or keep trying to make contact?

seems odd, but a week is not a lifetime.
Have you checked him out eg verified his address etc?

I’ve only been able to verify his address as of 8/19 on public records. I wouldn’t be as pro active as I am, if his business was accredited, but since I was replying to a Craigslist ad for roofing and a simple search for his company comes up with nothing, I feel the faster I address the matter the better chance I have of getting my money returned.

Have you been to his address?
Well you might as well start with your letter before action and give him a couple of weeks before initiating the court process.

Haven’t been to his house, Im worried about creating a hostile situation by showing up at his house. Would a ending a letter be the best coarse of action?
