Lowell Discount Letter

Hi All, new to the site so hello. I'm currently in a DMP with StepChange. Everything is going fine. I had a debt with Hitachi which was sold to Lowell. Had it for just over 2 years now. R The debt is mine and happy to pay it back just longer than expected. I received a letter on Friday from Lowell offering a 70% discount. Is this all legitimate or am I smelling something fishy here. Read a number of forums saying Lowell must know something is up hence the offer and they want some money back asap. I haven't got the money for the offer but just seeing if anybody else has been in this boat and if there is any advice out there.
