  • Executor on the will

The solicitor named as an executor on my father's will has retired. The legal firm he worked for are insisting on being executors to ensure it's done properly. I'm the only other named executor. There is no house left as that was sold for care home fees. The amount left in his estate is very small (less than £50K). I am the sole beneficiary apart from a charity which he wished to leave a small donation to. I know I need to get probate for his bank account but I'm sure I could deal with that myself. Is there anything I can do to persuade the firm to relinquish their role in order for me to preserve the relatively small amount of inheritance which he has left? His estate is simple and straightforward. The firm is not a firm he had ever used before so he didn't have a long term relationship with the retired solicitor, he only used him for rewriting his will and he would not be happy knowing that this could now cost a significant amount of unnecessary money.
