  • Hi - Just looking for a little advice

    Hi

I'm Ste and I am just looking for a little advice.

Say someone I know committed a serious crime against me a few months ago but because I know the person I decided not to press charges (stupidly), even though it was a serious crime.

I have now changed my mind and would like to press charges. Can I still do this even though I originally told the police I didn't want to when he was arrested at the time?

The crime was a violent crime involving a knife if that is relevant.

    Thanks

    Ste

You do not have the right to "press charges". The police do that, on advice from the CPS. As you were not prepared to be a witness, the police have no evidence to approach the CPS with. If you are now prepared to be a witness, you can go back to the police and tell them that.
