Cowboy Parking Tickets

Hello, I was issued a parking ticket by UK Car Park Management Limited about a year ago. I contested the fine as my car was outside of their compound, it was parked up against outward opening gates onto a public road. They refused to accept my appeal. Ive now had a Letter Before Claim from Gladstone Solicitors who I understand are a disreputable firm. They gave me 30 days to pay up before court proceedings were initiated (expired today-slip in on this one). One question, as the letter from Gladstones is unsigned do I have to reply. Second question how would I go about contesting the claim? I would appreciate any help, thank you in advance.
