Fraud? Should I go to police or suck it up?

Looking for legal advice. Went to local Co-op today to buy groceries. Used reward card as always, but receipt said I had 0.45 pence in reward credit, but 3 days ago I had over £17 on the card. Called Customer service who said £17.58 had been spent from my reward card last Thursday. This was in a place, and at a time that I could not possibly have been. I keep my reward card in my wallet, however I discovered that the plastic fob attached to my key ring was missing (presumably snapped off). It seems that some opportunist has picked up the broken fob, gone to a Co-op, and fraudulently spent my money. I have spoken with Co-OP who have sent me time, date and location of transaction, but that is, unfortunately all they will do. If I report this to the police,will they investigate? Obtaining goods by deception is a crime, isn't it?

I'm afraid that the police, overstretched as they are, probably won't investigate. The Coop where the card was used might still have the CCTV footage of the transaction, but that's just a picture of the perpetrator. To arrest him/her, the police need a name and address.

Have you asked the Coop whether they would show you the footage?

You could ask the COOP to credit the funds stolen from the card.
