You are clearly anxious and frightened, but the bottom line is that shoplifting is a crime.

I wish you well with your application for British citizenship. You are very lucky that your crime has had no consequences for you, with that, or anything else.

Shoplifting is not a 'victimless' crime.

It puts up shop prices because of actual loss of the goods, which prevents it's sale, the cost of reordering a replacement, which must be paid for by the shop, the cost of security to prevent shoplifting, and it also increases insurance premiums covering loss.

Shoplifting, can lead to the loss of workers employment, and can cause retailers to close. "the largest single element of the overall cost of crime to retailers remains “customer theft” – or shoplifting – which accounts for £500m per year" in the UK. That's close to £1.5 million pounds a day!

In answer to your question at 13 - Paragraphs 16 and 17 applies to the person making the demand of £150 TO you.

Personally, I believe that aspect of the legislation to be unfair, but it is the law.

RLP seek around £150 for a foiled attempt of theft of a £38 item.
        That cannot be morally sustainable.
As shown in court in such cases the retailer lost nowt, his additional costs were close to nowt and he is due nowt.
The overall cost of theft cannot arbitrarily be reduced to a simple cost against any one offender who is caught.

You might think the legislation is unfair, but i believe the unwarranted demands of civil recovery firms are morally reprehensible

How many times do we gave to tell you: THIS IS NOT A FINE It is a company trying to get additional income by playing on people's fears. They have already been paid for their work and they have lost nothing. There is nothing to resolve.

Was caught shoplifting in boots and the security told me no police will be involve and they gave me a form stating that if I ever come into boots again I will be illegal for tresspass. The security told me that as I was a student so no police will be involve first time. After talking to the security he escort me to go out of the store. After walking 500 meter away from the shop, two police men approach me and said that they know that I shoplifted ( I assume the security use walkie talkie to contact local security and police as when I walk out from the boots, the security at Superdrug was also staring at me. The police took my details and record in a small book. They ask where I’m staying, date of birth and what course I am doing. Then they ask me to go. Will I be recorded in the system and will it affect me when I fly back to my country?Someone please guide me. Thank you for assisting
