  • Single Justice Procedure Notice for Speeding offence

    Hi everyone,
I've recently received a SJPN. I was give a NIP a while back for doing 36mph on a 20mph road. I truly believe there is no excuse for speeding (not like this anyway), somehow I wandered inside my head and as the road was clear I guess I didn't pay attention to my speed until I saw someone waving me to pull over. It's not normal for me to do this. I've had a clean driving licence for almost 9 years and I'm a courier in London so what I mean is I'm not a careless driver or try not to be.
I am now just starting to train for hgv licence and I'm afraid any endorsements over 3 points will impact my chance of getting a job once I finish it. It is also still a problem in the courier company I work for as I use their company vehicle.
This is all new to me so I started googling about pleas of mitigation to see how to address who I need to and how to write it and ran across this forum. Can someone please point me in the right direction ? I thank you all in advance.

For that offence the sentencing guidelines are either a driving ban of between 7 and 56 days or six penalty points. This could be coupled with a fine up to 150% of weekly income.

If pleading guilty by post you put your plea of mitigation in the form of a letter which will be read to the Magistrates by their clerk before sentence.
      • The letter should be short and to the point.
      • You should say you accept full responsibility and say you regret what you've done.
      • You should say that you're determined not to offend again.
      • If this is your first offence, you should say so. Also mention you've been driving for a long time.
      • Explain if the offence was out of character.
      • Describe any circumstances that might help to explain why you committed the offence (but don't say you wandered inside your head..do that and they will do you for driving without due care and attention!).
      • As the offence is endorsable, describe the effect of penalty points or disqualification, for example, on your employment.
      • If applicable, you should say that you would appreciate time to pay the fine.

It might be more advantageous to plead guilty in person, and speak to the court in person

We don't really 'do' speeding offences & suchlike.
