  • Working Tax Credits

Hi I had an overpayment of Working tax credits and an uncle who passed away I should have told them, but I didnt and then I was told I had to pay this back it was 1500 odd pounds a bit steep Is there a good chance I can get it cancelled?

Probably not, but we don't know enough of your personal circumstances to be able to advise.

In exceptional circumstances (mental health or other serious health issues) repayment might be suspended.
In cases where recovery will cause financial hardship repayment instalments may be made in smaller amounts.

To be honest its a load of rubbish I can appeal it or take it to the small claims courts.

Not sure what is a load of rubbish.

If you were overpaid tax credits because you failed to notify HMRC of a change of circumstances that would affect your entitlement I believe you will have some difficulty overturning the order to repay the overpayment.

HMRC are not a sympathetic organisation.

Because of the difficulty of advising you without full details of your circumstances (which you would not wish to post on open forum!) I would suggest you contact a service like CAB for help
