  • Train4Jobs / Carnegie Consumer Finance

Hi. Just trying to find some solutions to a problem I am having with Train4Jobs and Carnegie Consumer Finance.

I signed up to a course with them on 24/06/2017 for a fee of £7145 minus a £50 deposit. I was to make 43 payments of £165 to which I am 20 payments in.

The salesperson at the time basically told me everything I wanted to hear. I could do the course at home in my own time. Go to the practical test centre in Featherstone (10 minutes from where I live) at any time that suited me. (I work for the NHS, and don't know if the time I book off will be granted until 4 - 6 weeks before i'm due to take it) And that was the key. *At any time or centre that suited me.* All I had to do was phone Train4Jobs and tell them i'm ready for the practical test. Which sounds too good to be true. The salesperson was very quick to get me to sign and leave as he had 'other potential students' to see.

Long story short, that wasn't the case. I had to do the test when they tell me, and where they tell me to do it... Wolverhampton, Bristol or London were the other alternatives. And as I have a young family, spending a week in a B&B or travel lodge wasn't an option.

I went to the Financial Ombudsman who, after looking through all the details and contracts, declared that I hadn't read the terms and conditions, which stated that I had to do the test at a time and place which suited THEM.

The problem I am having now, is that due to circumstances at work. I am earning a little less than I was, say, a year ago.

As I am no longer doing the course. If I decided to just cancel my direct debit or standing order to Carnegie Consumer Finance, what would be the consequences? I still owe £3,795 (minus another £165 on 01/04/19) And I own my own house, so have a mortgage and bills and such.

I've been in touch with various organisations and charities about reducing the payments to pay over a longer period, but to no avail.

    Many thanks

    Chris

I am more or less in the same boat- wrote to train 4 jobs told them I no longer wanted to continue with the course, but told by them would not be refunded ( which I didn’t expect to be , I just don’t want to continue to pay £165 for a course I can’t complete) and that I need to continue to pay ?, I cancelled my standing order but now been sent a letter stating it needs paying in the 10 days otherwise further action will be taken ?

I had been debating whether to cancel my standing order, but want to know the consequences could potentially be... I read on the forums here that people have cancelled the payments and have had nothing negative come from it... Would you be willing to post the outcome of your endeavour on here?

      Many thanks.
