Hi!. A large crack has appeared in our garage wall (externally and internally) which we believe has been caused by the roots of a neighbour's tree. (Neighbour's Scots Pine and Willow tree both very close to wall). Our neighbour refuses to discuss. Do we get a Surveyor or Arboriculturist to inspect the problem, and if the crack is stated to be due to the tree roots where do we go from here? We would be happy to have the crack repaired but the reason for the crack needs to be established and dealt with first to prevent further damage to our property.

Hi and welcome
you should call in an arborist who will write a report giving an assessment as to whether the damage has been caused by tree roots.
You will then need to appoint a chartered surveyor to assess the damage and to give an indication of the costs for the remedial works. With this information and these reports, you will then be able to make a claim – but it should always be your last course of action.
A claim on your Buildings insurance might be easier!
