  • Incorrect default notice from British Gas

Hi, Please can you help? I have moved into a new build property and have a Direct Debit on My gas and Electricity account with British Gas. I recently contacted them as they had the electricity account set up with the Plot number at the site address with my address as the supply. It was as though it was still the building company that were in charge of it so I wasn't quite sure whether I was being billed correctly and wanted it changing. I have now received a default notice for completely different account (not mine) showing the housing company name but my address so this is clearly a bill prior to me moving in that the building company haven't paid. The guy who I spoke to about the change of address said he didn't need my customer number as he had found the account (he seemed to know what he was doing). He obviously saw my address as the supply address on this other account and presumed wrongly that this was my account. I have contacted British Gas and they are adamant that the bill doesn't have my address on but they are wrong and said this several times about the original query. How can I resolve this and ensure that my property doesn't get blacklisted as my actual account is in credit? Thank you

So why did you open the letter if it was not addressed to you? Return the complete package to the BG stating "opened in error" and "not at this address".

Then complain starting at the top.

    Email mark.hodges@britishgas.co.uk
Then start looking for another supplier !!
