Hello All- (Council tax Arrears help please guys.)

Hi all glad to have found this forum and hoping for some help if you can. I have council tax arrears and have received a letter from Sheriff Officers for the debt. After calling the Sheriff officers office the first thing they asked was where i work, i immediately hung up the phone. I am unsure if i have to tell them any of that information? I do want to make an arrangement to pay the outstanding arrears and have an amount i can afford but would rather communicate with them through letter. I also contacted the council again to ask if i can pay them the arrears direct but they have said its up to the Sheriff officers now the Summary warrant has been granted. Obviously trying to avoid a wage arrestment here Any template letters you can help with and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm no expert in council tax in Scotland (my work as a paralegal is in English council tax) but as I understand it the Arrestment of Earnings under a summary warrant falls under the Debtors (Scotland) Act 1987, as amended. Under this Act there is no apparent offence of failing to provide details of employment however...

The Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement) (Scotland) Regulations 1992 lays out (unsurprisingly) the administration and enforcement of council tax by the local authority. Regulation 31 of these regulations provides how and when employment details can be requested for the purposes of the enforcement.
