  • Suspended on zero hour contract

I have received an email to say that I have been suspended from my work with no explanation.. yesterday my wife was in terrific pain which we later found out it was kidney stones...so I phoned and spoke to my boss to explain that I wouldn't be able to make work as I needed to get her to hospital..He was fine on the phone and then he sent a nasty text message and then the suspension email few hours later..he wants a meeting on Monday but I am so angry at the moment to attend..

You have a statutory right to time off for a dependant.

    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga...18/section/57A

Taking your wife to hospital qualifies s.57(1)(a).
You told your employer as soon as you could so s.57(2)(a) is ticked.
Did you also tell him how long you expected to be absent? s.57(2)(b)
If so, you're covered and should not be subjected to any detriment for exercising this statutory right.
If not, send him an email back telling him that you have been able to return to work since today (or yesterday afternoon if that's true) and that you would have done so if you hadn't been suspended.
