Many years ago my husband and I made free wills with Barclays . Since then the wills have been passed to Zedra and they will act as executors. I have since found out that they may charge a large percentage of the estate for this service. Our estate and affairs are very simple and we have decided to use a local solicitor, make new wills and name our children as joint executors. Will I have to notify Zedra and is there any way they can try to charge us fees for storing our wills in the past? I’m just presuming that the new wills will make those old ones invalid but like to be sure.

A new will will invalidate a previous will. To make sure there is usually a statement to that effect at the top of a will.
How will Zebra know that you have created new wills? Only if you tell them! There is no requirement to tell them. How will they even know when you die?
Last year my wife was made executor when a friend made a new will. The executor from the previous will got in touch when the friend died (it was the daughter) and was really nasty about not being executor but there was nothing she could do about it. She had thought she would be a joint executor but was rapidly put right on that point.
