VT Issues -New Tyres Needed- Help Please

I have VT'd my Audi & I have just had my car inspected by BCA before it is due back next week. One tyre has a gouge in the side wall & another has a very minor blemish on, he has reported both need replacing. I dispute both but on the BVRLA site it does say under fair wear & tear that there must be no damage to the side walls so I suspect I must replace the tyres.

My question is what tyres to put on. It currently has expensive Pirelli's on & I have been told I need to replace them with similar ones & not value tyres. Is this correct as they are £190 each & I can get value ones for about £60 each?

Gouges in the sidewall are dangerous they should be replaced, when you replace them make sure they are the correct size & are speed rated to the car, also ensure that you get an invoice with the Registration number on from whomever fits them as the inspection has already been done they will probably still claim the damage & you will need prove you have replaced the tyres since. Might also be worth taking photos of the tyres being fitted & once on.

Thanks, that's really helpful. My other question is do I have to fit the approved Audi tyres or can I put any decent tyres on?

My personal opinion is that as long as they are the correct size, correct speed rating & of the correct type, i.e. if they are currently runflats I don't see that it matters, R0b your thoughts?

If they are suitable to be used on the car, I think that’s sufficient. Your agreement will likely say that you need to replace like for like but if you are going to VT that doesn’t matter
