  • Hello & which thread to post to?

Hello All! Thank you for accepting my registration. I would appreciate some advice! I am currently studying CILEX Level 3 for leisure through distance learning. I do not work in a legal practice, nor have I ever done. I paid a course fee to study 3 units through distance learning via Cardiff College Online, 2 of which were coursework based units & 1 exam. In order to submit my coursework & take the exam, I had to become a student member. Due to personal events beyond my control (redundancy, house move & bereavement), I wasn’t ready to register for the Summer 2017 exam period & instead entered for January 2018. My student membership has since lapsed. The exam results are due 29th March 2018. I have today received an email to say that my results will be witheld unless I renew my membership. There was also mention of an additional £40 administration fee for late renewals. This does not seem right to me. I paid to do the course and for the examination. In essence, I won’t get my results unless I re-join, £80 plus a possible £40 re-registration fee! I don’t want to renew my membership again as it’s not worthwhile for me. I won’t be able to study further this membership year because I have to study in my new job for a qualification.

I think your starting point is to read the terms and conditions when you signed up to the course to understand whether or not they are allowed to do what they are saying. It seems odd that they won't release your exam results unless you re-register and may be an unfair contract term in that respect but if you weren't registered at the time of taking the exams then that could be the reason why, particularly if you had to be a registered member at the time of taking the exams.

If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you
