I desperately need help regarding my husbands health . Is this the right way to do this ?

My husband is the oldest person alive in UK with a rare disease. He has multiple other problems also . In 1993 a government tribunal awarded him DLA for life. I have this form still . Now PIP are coming to a home visit , he is distraught and very unwell . I am his carer and wife. Can some-one tell me the legality of this form ? Glycogen storage disease ass. think this really should stand .

HI, just to try put you at ease a little, DLA is ending full stop even if the award is indefinite, so don't feel you have been singled out in anyway.
As DLA is being phased out people are being invited to claim PIP and as you have a home visit arranged I presume you filled in the ‘How your disability affects you’ form?
I had a quick look at the illness your OH has I have never heard of it tbh and it may be the case for the assessor too, they can not be clued up on every illness and how it affects people so please bare that in mind when they call.
All I can say to help is to tell you it is not the condition itself but how it impacts on your daily living re personal care and motability.
The assessor will address your OH at the meeting, they will want to know basically as I have said how the illness affects his daily living, Only he and you as his carer will know his limitations so I suggest from now until the meeting you write down all you can as it's so easy to forget the little things you must help him with that if he didn't have you he couldn't do himself.
Also any aids no matter how simple they may seem or any adaptions to the house you have had should also be noted.

On top of what has been said above the people that make the decisions on this are revisiting all DLA Claimants who are between 16 & 64 and where appropriate giving them PIP. There has been a lot in the press lately about this as to how some have been treated. The assessors appear to have no medical knowledge bar what they have read up on. Where you say DLA for life is this for both the Care & Mobility components?
