hello there,
I need some advice please.
I have received a package of Home made Sweets and Chutneys (9.5 kgs) sent by Grandparents who are in India.
They paid the Fedex Courier charges which is about 80£.
On the package they mention - Its for gift purpose only. And clearly stated No commercial value.
But I discarded the original Invoice i received with the package, as i didnt except any problems.
Now, Fedex has sent me a Duty Tax Invoice for 23.62GBP , its a less amount, but i am finding this unfair. As my grandparents made sweets by them selves and sent with love, and also for the actual reason that the parcel doesnt have any commercial value.
The Package invoice fedex sent states in the delivery and payments column states that ---
1) Beint sent for sample only
2)No commercial Value
3)Value declared for customs purpose only - which is Rs.2000 Indian Rupees ( approx 23£ GBP)
Now, Fedex is asking me to pay more than actual goods value .
I have contacted Fedex.
They have replied following :
Thank you for your query regarding invoice ---------.
In order for a gift shipment to be exempt from import Duty and VAT, GB have strict criteria which must be met as follows:
1. The item(s) must be sent from person to person as a private transaction. There should be no company name stated on the paperwork - only the sender and recipients’ own names and home addresses.
2. The value of the gift must not exceed 39 gbp per person. If the gift is for more than 1 person, each recipient name must be clearly listed on the commercial invoice with no more than 39 gbp alongside each name.
3. It is also helpful if the sender states on the commercial invoice and FedEx International Air Waybill that the item is a gift, otherwise, GB will assume that this is a normal importation and not take the gift allowance into consideration.
After looking through the paperwork for your consignment, we found that Paragraph 3 above has not been met on this occasion. Therefore, the charges have been levied correctly.
FedEx trust this clarifies the matter for you with regard to the importation of gifts into GB, however should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
-------------------
Please can you guide me. shall i pay the duty tax? or shall i fight? I feel very unfair and i dont want to pay.Kindly please suggest.
On the other hand , im worried if it Would be a bad remark on our credit rating as we are planning to step on to property ladder.
Please Advice.
Many Thanks
