John Leyton - Johnny Remember Me

A No 1 hit from the summer of 1961.

This was a song by the maverick record producer Joe Meek who was renowned for his distinctive sound effects. He appears on the film with the tapes.

At about this time, Joe was one of a number of producers approached in London by Brian Epstein, who was keen to find a label for the Beatles. Like all the others at the time, Joe blew it. In one of the great understatements of the music business, the Decca producers told Brian "Guitar groups are on the way out Mr Epstein"
